An evening in Shimla...

It was only my second trip to Himanchal Pradesh (the first was to the industrial town of Baddi more than a decade back to meet suppliers in my previous job), but somehow I didn't at all want to visit Shimla - the capital of the mountain state. Somehow everything I had read about Shimla in the past few years has been about the town is completely spoiled and can be skipped if you really want to travel and explore the state. And that's exactly what I did, till the last day of my departure when I had a meeting with Shimla's famous writer, Raaja Bhasin at The Club and there was no way to escape a quick trip to the city.

An evening in Shimla...

And my first impression?

I was completely wrong about Shimla! Yes it's large and crowded, but it's really enchanting nevertheless. I saw Shimla only when the sun was setting, yet loved everything about it, including the bustling Mall Road with it's crowd. The place has a vibe and I promised myself that I would revisit Shimla to explore every nook and corner of the city, and rediscover the summer capital of British India.

There is so much history in the city (and that itself gets my adrenaline rushing) and I am sure that will even help me understand the history of my own country better, including the story of partition of the country. More coming on this soon on the blog :)
