Lodurva Jain Temple, Jaisalmer

Lodurva Jain Temple, located near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, is dedicated to the twenty third Tirthankar Parshwanath and is also a popular Jain pilgrims for Jains from Rajasthan and Gujarat. You can also see some very interesting donations made by the rich Jains living outside the country. Check out the last image here - the bench in use is a donation from a group of Jains based out of London :)

Lodurva was also the official capital of the Bhatti dynasty before it was shifted to Jaisalmer.

Snigdha taking a walk through some stunning light...

I visited the temple as part of a temple trail, and was completely stunned by the beauty of the place. Not only is the temple in pristine condition, it's also a very peaceful place to be in. The carvings on the stones. the play of light and shadows, the majestic Tree of Life, and the rich history of the place makes it a must-visit for everyone traveling to this part of country.

With time, the temple town has not lost its relevance and continues to be thronged by tourists from India and outside. We came here in the middle of day, starved and thirsty, but the moment we saw the place, we were all suddenly energised. I could have easily spent an entire day at the temple and the adjoining village, but we had other temples ahead in the trail, so could spend only some time at Lodurva.

Here is a photo story from Lodurva Jain Temple - an attempt to capture some stunning beauty there...

To reach

Lodurva Jain Temple is located in a small village on the outskirts of Jaisalmer (about 20 kilometres). You can easily take a cab and come here, though am not sure if there is public transportation which can take you there.

If you want to drive down here, you can use the following map :) The road is pretty scenic with long stretches through golden sand on both sides.

This is also the village where I met Sumer (Read: A twitter follower in Jaisalmer village), and that makes it even more special :)
