Yosemite National Park: a photographic journey in the springs

I was actually a little bit disappointed with my photography at Yosemite National Park in the winters and so decided never to really publish them online. Somehow I could just not capture the essence of the place with my camera and on top of that, my battery died out before I could do any justice to the place.

It was only because Chris insisted that I show her the pictures that I am sharing these here.

For anyone who actually wants to enjoy Yosemite photography, do have a look at the work of Ansel Adams. This guys is a genius and his work has inspired generations of visitors who photographed these hills.

The Half dome, something I really wanted to reach upto
The surroundings are serene, even on a weekend, there are numerous places where you would be all alone and at complete peace with yourself
The beautiful water (freezing as well)
The Half Dome again, arguably the most famous landmark of Yosemite
The last shot before the batteries decided to say goodbye

  2. I think you are very severe with yourself Sid! These shots are very good, but we also see the faults in our own work when others can't. And i also think that you were very upset that your camera battery died at the wrong time, it sort of tainted the feeling about your shots!

    1. I guess you are right about the battery, it did upset me, but unexpectedly it also allowed me to just walk around without worrying about taking any pictures etc...it somehow kind of freed me up :)

  4. I think you do yourself a disservice by saying these are not good - You captured much of what it feels like there, at least to me. The clouds hovering over half-dome - awesome!

Glad you decided to post these.

  6. Hi Sid! (Do people call you Sid? I'm not sure.) Yosemite is an amazing place and did you get some good compositions here. I especially like the ones with the clouds around the top of half dome. You said you didn't capture the essence of the place. I think the problem is only that you were there at the wrong time of day. It is really really difficult almost impossible to get "the shot" in the harsh mid-day light. Unless you get one of those super blue skies. But white sky just never works out. I bet if you took those exact same images at sunrise, sunset or twilight it would make a huge difference. You did a lot of things right with these images, just mother nature's lighting wasn't what you need.

I'm glad you posted the images, they remind me of a trip I took there last year.

    1. Hey Anne, you are right...people do call me Sid :)

I would perhaps agree with you on the light part, but nature photography is something that I am inherently not good at. I just doesn't come to me naturally, which is weird because I love such places...esp the lonely mountains, forests etc...

  8. sometimes we're our toughest critics. I think you've got some good compositions in this series and came away with some good shots. I think anne is right, these same compositions taken when the light is working with you instead of against you would be amazing. if you want some Yosemite inspiration from a current photographer check out Michael Frye's site http://www.michaelfrye.com/ He's a master at shooting Yosemite.
