Every year Stanford University celebrates the festival of Lohri, among a host of outer festivals from the world, and the event adds to the deeply ingrained element of multiculturalism within the campus. Here's a story of Lohri festivities from my student days at Stanford! Enjoy :)
|
A performance underway...school kids in full force! |
|
This was actually my first picture, a girl having a blast all alone :) |
|
Pretty girls, never away from my camera... |
Even for someone like me, it took a while to see people standing so close to each other and still having a blast! And it wasn't a rave party I was attending...
Music was a blast and food was way better than average Indian at a local restaurant, especially the
cholas, which were terrific! And chai...
subhanallah! Someone please get me tea more often here...
As I parked my bike and saw a small crowd of mostly Indians, I was
unsure how the event would turn out, especially when we were celebrating
Lohri almost a month after its actual date. Also the fact that most
Indians actually spoke to each other in English, rather than Hindi. Not
surprising as even I often do that here.

Dhol, dhamaka... |
|
This young boy all set to perform! |
|
Ah! I love the light on some faces sometimes... |
|
The couple recently got married, and looked very much in love :) |
As my numerous Indian friends came pouring in (non-Stanford
ites), the place became alive. Joking and meeting new people, and drinking even more
chai, the evening became even more fun! No, I didn't miss home in anyway; but yes, it was great meeting so many Indians and having a great time with them all :)
|
Happy audience! |
|
Another face, or wait...is it the same woman? |
|
And the food getting cooked...these guys had a hard time keeping up with the appetite of guests! |
Beautiful captures.
