Let's save the Rainforest - Together with WWF and Baidu
I have
never been to South America, but it's my dream to one day trek through
the rain-forests of Amazon, to listen to the sounds of rain falling, and
shiver at the sound of unknown wild animals. But a sense of despair
grips me when I read about the the loss of these ancient forests due to
human activity. We have already lost a large chunk of these forests, and
they are disappearing at a fast rate even today. If I wait too long,
will the forests no longer be there?
However, I am hopeful that the future won't be as bleak!
Many organizations have come together to help in the conservation, and this is certainly reduced the rate of loss. The recent Climate Change conference in Paris also concluded that our carbon footprint is very high and we all need to come together to reduce it and save our planet.
And this is where a partnership between World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Baidu Mobile Apps comes in. The partnership aims to 'save the Amazon and other forests across the world' through an awareness program on social media and developing a game for dissemination of knowledge.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the world‘s largest conservation organizations. WWF focuses its work around the magnificent diversity of life on this planet, the extraordinary places they live in. Baidu Mobile Apps is one of the world's most trusted android apps developer that creates innovate, state-of-the-art apps for Android devices that are enjoyed by 700 millions of users worldwide. They are most well known for their energy saving app for Android phones.
The campaign also aims increase awareness about many pertinent issues like global warming, carbon emissions, and their threat to our planet. The hope is that equipped with this knowledge, the current generation will be empowered to be the change-makers of the nest generation.
At the end of the campaign, Baidu Mobile Apps will donate $25,000 to support WWF's work to help save the Amazon and other amazing forests around the world.
So how can we all be a part of this campaign?
We can all do things at an individual level and be connected with the campaign. While the rest of the world comes together at conferences and set goals for 2100, at an individual level we can start making a change right from today.
To make this knowledge easy to grasp, Baidu Mobile Apps has also developed a game called C Plan. Intrigued? Check it out here. Participants will virtually race together through 6 countries, starting in the USA and ending in India, with their cumulative distance being tallied at the end of each day.
The India portion of the campaign
will begin on December 28th and will go until the 31st. Users will have
a time limit to race as far as they can, and they will need to work
together to cover as much ground as possible. At the end of the
campaign, the total virtual distance run by users will be added up and
shared publicly by Baidu Mobile Apps to raise awareness of carbon
emissions.
