Walking over the Dal Lake...

srinagar dal lake kashmir india woman bridge

A young woman walks over the Dal Lake on the plank-bridge connecting the village cluster within the lake. Such bridges are common and used mainly by people living in the villages. Boats are still the most common mode of transportation, yet these are popular for shorter distances.

Tips:
  1. If you planning to visit Srinagar and looking for unusual experiences, make sure that you don't stay just in your boats, but do step out on these bridges and walk into the villages. Be nice and respectful to the people living there, and you might even get some Kashmiri chai or Kevha served through authentic Samovar :)
  2. Carry water, you won't regret the extra load in your backpack!
  3. If possible, go early in the morning - before seven would be best :)
