Ovre Holmegate in Stavanger - Bøker & Børst and a riot of colors!

The old houses of Stavanger are usually all white, except the ones at Ovre Holmegate street which is full of houses with extraordinary colors. I had never quite imagined a street in Stavanger to be such a riot of colors, so when I actually came here for a dinner at my friend Ida's place, I was pleasantly surprised! The place is drop-dead gorgeous with wonderfully colored houses in bright hues - Indigo, Yellow, Fuchsia and many many more.

The most beautiful segment of the street. My friend lives here, so I have spent quite some time here :)

However, I usually never really carried a camera during those days, but on this one visit on a very cold and mellow day I fortunately did and was rewarded by these shots.

Sow what do you go there for? Well, there is lots you can do, but start with just taking a walk through the entire street and absorb all the beauty there. Once tired, you must stop by at Boker and Borst - a gorgeous bar full of books! And if you do not drink alcohol, do try their excellent coffee. This is what, Lonely Planet has to say about them and I completely agree with it :)

"There are dozens of engaging little cafes in the lanes climbing the hillside west of the oil museum, but our favourite is Bøker & Børst with its warm and eccentric decor, great coffee and laid-back feel whatever the time of day. Special mention must be made of the toilets, which have antique wallpaper and bookshelves filled to bursting – clearly they don’t mind if you linger."

  3. Well, I love the colors and the details included in the architecture. My favorite is the shot with the deep blue building and chartreuse windows. Those colors just "pop!"
