There is absolutely no doubt in my head that it's the kids who know how to have the best time on a hot and lazy afternoon on a weekend. While we adults often choose to relax (preferably with cups of ginger chai by the side), kids are usually out to explore their own city and make memories of the lifetime!

Jumping and hoping not to land on the steps! |
Now if you've been to Varanasi, you'll know that it can get extremely hot and humid during the pre-monsoon month, and even during monsoon when there are clouds but no rains. I had a free day with no plan, and my guest-house didn't have any AC, so I decided to fight the heat and humidity by taking pictures of the lazy day. While everything else looked lazy and sleepy, these kids were most certainly not.
This was best seen as I walked along the river and ghat after ghat had kids having a blast in the river water, while the adults sat under the shade and occasionally shouted out a warning. When they saw me with a camera all hell broke loose and they did the best jumps, somersaults, flips and more in the water for my pictures. Rarely have I seen any adult being so enthusiastic about getting clicked!
Here's a photo-story from that one long afternoon, as I walked alone in search of interesting subjects to click, and only found these enthusiastic kids! Do check out the video at the end - the high jump of the brave-heart!

Somersault using his friend's shoulder :) |

Caught him candidly! |

Solo jumping! |

There were some crash landings too! |
|
Not everyone was jumping, some like me, just observed! |
|
Straight into water! |
|
The guy on the left seem to be walking on water! |
|
He was the most fun of them all - jumped about ten times for me to click! |

Hi Siddhartha,
ReplyDeleteThis is Shilpa. Have been trying to come up with a travel blog of mine. But with too many ones around the corner and too little places that I had visited, I guess it might take a little more time for me to settle in to the thought. Must say. Your blogs are definitely inspiring. Hope I can also get to write good things about places I travelled. Happy New Year.
