Life well travelled when you fly with Cathay Pacific!

There is something fascinating about catching a flight late in the night, especially past midnight. Your body is tired, but you are full of excitement for the upcoming journey. Surprisingly this happens to me every time I head out of the country, even though that happens rather often. So when I was in Mumbai to catch a flight to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific, I looked calm from outside, but was giddy with anticipation to be traveling to China for the first time ever in my life.

However, as soon as I relaxed in my comfortable seat, I was fast asleep. In fact I slept so well, that I didn't even catch the sunrise, which is a rarity.

In fact it was only later that I realised that this was all a part of a plan and happened by design, through an initiative by Cathay Pacific called Life Well Travelled. The concept is simple - flying well is as important as living well, something even more relevant to frequent flyers like me. So from the design of the seats, to that of food tray, as well as service, everything is done to make sure that the experience of the traveller is comfortable.

Curious about how my journey was from Pune to Hong Kong with Cathay? Here's a short video :)

Why fly to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific?

Well, this is an easy one. With services to over 200 destinations across Asia, North America, Europe and Africa, it's also the founding member of the OneWorld global alliance. If you don't know about OneWorld alliance, go to their page and quickly become a member there to get great benefits and earn points, especially if you fly internationally often.

You can also join Cathay's own royalty program - Marco Polo Club.

And if that's not enough, it was also named 'World's Best Airline' four times in the Skytrax World Airline Awards.

They are experts in flying into Asia, especially their home country, Hong Kong. In fact there are a total of 48 flights a week a week from India, with double daily services from Delhi to Hong Kong and ten flights a week from Mumbai to Hong Kong.

Special features in Cathay economy class

Because I travel so often, I love flying because it forces me to take a break and take things slowly. Cathay economy was perfect as I slept like a log of wood during most of my time on-board.

While I was awake, a couple of things stood out for me - the in-flight entertainment system ( I finally saw La La Land, and loved it) and the fact that you can charge your devices with the USB charging point. Do keep in mind that in-flight charging works only after take-off.

Cathay lounge at Hong Kong airport

In case you are flying business class, or choose to upgrade to one, I recommend visiting the lounge, The Pier, to relax before you take off!

Bonus tip to fly with Cathay

One thing that really works in favour of Cathay Pacific right now is the fact that laptops and other electronic devices are banned on all flights which pass through many middle eastern countries, like Dubai. Such a restriction won't matter if you fly into Canada, for example, via Hong Kong, with Cathay. In fact, that's exactly my plan when I go there later in the year.

  1. I love Cathay Pacific. I flew them in economy from NYC-HKG, and was as pleasant as a 16-hour flight could possibly be! And I'm moving to Shenzhen, China shortly, and can take a ferry direct to HKG, so I expect that I will be flying Cathay Pacific much more frequently in the near future. I need to go join Marco Polo for the miles now!

  2. Cathay Pacific is a top-notch airline. I can't wait to fly them again. Great tip on flying into Canada to bypass the electronics ban. Other than sleep, I don't know what I would do without a device to read or get some work done.

    1. That's true...I also either sleep or catch up on blogging work when I fly. Comfortable flights help in both the cases :)

  4. I must admit even though I fly several times a year and with many different airlines, I haven't actually heard of Cathay Pacific before. They sound like a really good airline so I'll have to check out where they fly to and from. Really want to try them now

  5. I've never flown with Cathay Pacific but it looks like a lovely airline. The electronics charging point is definitely a bonus on flights. I struggle to sleep on most flights due to either not having enough space or the seats being uncomfortable. Next time I fly in Asia it sounds as though I will have to check out CP. Thanks for sharing.

They are seriously setting the bar in terms of comforts on flights because their economy looks like it has all the comforts of business class (and amen to that!). I would definitely look into flying with them when I head to Hong Kong in the future :)

  11. We really haven't traveled through Asia much at all yet, so we havent had the chance to fly with Cathay, but I've not heard one bad word about their service, everyone who has ever spoken of the company has done so with high regard. Which is quite rare for this day and age! Glad you enjoyed your flight, and awesome to hear that you can get proper rest on their planes!
