A review of Baboo Cafe in Zanzibar island.

After walking for hours through the Stone Town and the beaches I was absolutely exhausted and dehydrated. All I needed was water but I was on the beach and could barely see a shop around. And this is when i saw this tiny little cafe perched up on the edge and overlooking the beautiful sea.

An elderly couple sitting there and enjoying their cocktails looked content and I immediately to decided to go up and enjoy the view of the sea from there! I am a huge coffee fan, though, considering the heat and my dehydration asked the lady Mariam to recommend me a non-alcoholic (seriously?) drink and he suggested something with lime, ginger and mint. It sounded great and with the chocolate crepe it tasted even better. In fact everything I had there was like a blessing to me :)

I spend close to an hour and half sitting there by myself, enjoying the sound of sea splashing against the rocks, sounds of light music playing in the background and the sound of my own sipping...it was a perfect time to contemplate after such a busy and hectic time at the Bazaars of Stone Town.

What to order:

The cafe is famous for chicken curry and Indian chapati. The fish caught locally is also a delicacy though it depends on the catch of the day.

The cocktails are also recommended.

How to reach:

Address:

Baboo Cafe
Shangani Street
Zanzibar Town

You can easily walk to the cafe both from the Old Town as well as the main port where boats from mainland Tanzania (Dar) come. Here is a map that you can follow. The map is for Africa House Hotel and the cafe is right opposite the hotel.
