My Salaam to Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam literally means 'Abode of Peace' in Arabic...

So finally I am here with all my luggage is still lost in transit somewhere. Kenya Airways has promised that it will be delivered to my hotel as soon as it is located absolutely free of charge. I like that, but I am more than willing to pay if that helps in getting it any faster :) The few lines below are my attempt to remember the first hectic day through images...

My first view of Africa was through the clouds as we were descending towards Nairobi, Kenya. My heart skipped a beat when I saw those vast open lands - how I wished to see large groups of animals running around just like NatGeo shows it. It does happen during the Great Migration though. Today, nothing like that happened and my mind simply created digitally created animals doing all sort of fun stuff!

However, it was only in Tanzania that I actually could see and experience the African land in a good way. Dar es Salaam almost looks like India, but feels so different. In fact, it feels like nothing that I have felt before. The air is extremely relaxed, and it can also be seen in how people are on the streets and outside. I was surprised to see such groups of people by the side of road simply sleeping or chatting, or playing board games.

Relaxd and disinterested...

Its also not surprising to see members of the Masai tribe walking around in their beautiful traditional attire (including the long dagger). I saw Indian brands like Airtel (which I knew about), Maruti-Suzuki and TVS all selling their stuff here. And I saw no street dogs at all! However, the craziest thing about the city is its famed traffic jams. I was stuck in one for an hour today and know exactly how frustrating these can be!

Anyway, enjoy these images for now, as I go back to worrying about my lost luggage :)

It might look like a tea kettle, but its actually for black coffee :)
